Don't install software on a rocks cluster -- let me do it. Reasons:

  • so I can keep track of what needs to be reinstalled after an upgrade
  • so it can be properly integrated into the cluster (unless you only want it on the head node)
  • so that compute nodes don't need tweaking after they get reinstalled

Hey, my computers(personal) PSU just decided to die, and I need to test and see if anything else is broken before I start ordering stuff. Are you going to be around campus any over the break, and could I possible borrow a PSU to test with? It shouldn't be more than an hour. Any testing suggestions would be helpful, the thing lit my room up when it went so I have no idea what might be broken. Thanks. -KJ4HTE (David)

Sorry, I don't have any non-smoked spare PSU's. That's pretty scary, it must have shot some flames out or something. Your best bet (short of finding a good PS to test with) is to visually inspect for mobo damage, and then sniff around too. Even if I did have a good PS, I'd do the smell test first. --ssd 00:11, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
