AIAA/SAE Heavylift airplane

Please check the event schedule and map as well as the conference pictures.

The primary objective of this project is to design, construct, and fly an airplane for the purpose of competing in the SAE Heavy Lift Competition this coming spring. The focus of the airplane's performance will be on its ability to lift the greatest amount of cargo weight while staying within the design constraints of the competition. This competition provides an opportunity to apply the knowledge learned in the classroom to a real world problem.

Our team has set several performance goals for ourselves. We have decided that we would be happy if the airplane was to lift twenty-two pounds of cargo weight. This would put us in good standings in the competition. We would be very satisfied if the plane lifted twenty-six pounds. This weight would make us one of the top performing aircraft at the competition, and could easily be the winning weight. Our ultimate goal is to break the standing record, which is twenty-nine point six pounds. Our goal for breaking this record is to lift thirty pounds. This will be difficult, but we feel that it is possible and intend to try to break it.

Final results:

SAE coimpetition
5th highest lift of 17.2 lbs., finshed 10th overall.
AIAA conference
Best Design
